TP4056 vs AiP4056: 1 A Li-ion charger alternative with the same ESOP-8 pinout

AiP4056 from I-CORE is a TP4056-compatible 1 A linear Li-ion charger in ESOP-8 with the same 8-pin function assignment, 4.2 V ±1 % float voltage and C/10 termination. Key difference: 4.5–5.5 V input range.

TP4056 is the standard single-cell Li-ion charger on USB-powered boards and charging modules. I-CORE makes a functional equivalent, the AiP4056, in the same ESOP-8 package. The pin functions and charge algorithm match; the input-voltage range does not, which matters for some designs.

Can I replace TP4056 with AiP4056?

On a USB 5 V design, AiP4056 is a drop-in candidate: the pin functions, PROG resistor value for a given current, status pins and 4.2 V charge voltage match. Check the input voltage first — the AiP4056 datasheet specifies 4.5–5.5 V operation, so boards that feed the charger from 6–8 V need a different solution.

Setting the charge current

In the AiP4056 datasheet, RPROG = 1.2 kΩ gives about 1 A and 2.4 kΩ about 500 mA (IBAT ≈ 1200 / RPROG). The same resistor values are commonly used with TP4056, so the BOM does not change.

Thermal design

Both are linear chargers: at 1 A from a 5 V input the IC dissipates roughly (5 V − VBAT) × 1 A. Solder the exposed pad to copper and let thermal regulation reduce the current if needed.

FAQ

Is AiP4056 pin-compatible with TP4056?
Yes. Both ESOP-8 parts use TEMP (1), PROG (2), GND (3), VCC (4), BAT (5), STDBY (6), CHRG (7) and CE (8).
What input voltage does AiP4056 support?
The AiP4056 datasheet (2026-07-B6) specifies an operating supply of 4.5–5.5 V, suitable for USB 5 V input.
Do I need to change the PROG resistor?
Normally not: 1.2 kΩ gives about 1 A in the AiP4056 datasheet, the same value commonly used with TP4056.
